Dokumentationszentrum Nationalsozialismus Freiburg – Documentation Centre on National Socialism in Freiburg

Since 2025, the Documentation Centre for National Socialism in Freiburg has been dedicated to the city’s Nazi history on three floors of the former tourist office, which dates back to 1936. In addition to the permanent exhibition and a special exhibition area, the historic building also houses seminar rooms and offices, as well as space for part of the Gertrud Luckner Library. In the permanent exhibition, objects and biographies provide insights into the period of National Socialism, persecution and resistance in Freiburg. The memorial room in the inner courtyard commemorates the people who were persecuted and murdered in Freiburg and the surrounding region. The examination of National Socialism is not yet complete, and future exhibition projects and events at the DZNS will focus more closely on this topic.

Serious Game „FreiBuddy“

Users of the app take an interactive augmented reality tour of Freiburg on their mobile devices. Three routes and encounters with fictional and real characters offer a variety of insights into the history and present of Jewish life in Freiburg. ‘FreiBuddy’ thus invites reflection on coexistence in urban society. The app is the result of a participatory project by the DZNS, funded by the Foundation ‘Remembrance, Responsibility and Future’ (EVZ). The app was developed in collaboration with ZAUBAR.
‘FreiBuddy’ is aimed at groups, young people and school classes, as well as anyone aged 14 and over who is interested in Jewish life in Freiburg and augmented reality. The app is available in German and English with accessible elements and can be downloaded free of charge from the usual stores. To use the app, you need an access code, which can be requested by emailing .
